‘Edward The Confessor’

A short film by BretonLABS & Niall O’Brien

Visual experimentalists Breton have released a powerful and emotive short film for their forthcoming debut single ‘Edward TheConfessor’, due for release on Fat Cat Records on 21^st November 2011.

The track's lyrics are based on a field recording of a conversation taking place between two unknown men, the subject matter of which is immigration and the frustration of surviving in a foreign country.

It’s a similar frustration that’s echoed in the young faces of the disaffected youths featured in photographer and film-maker Niall O'Brien's recent 'Anger' exhibition - 

four kids on a council estate in London, shot at 1000 frames per second and capturing anger in its most undiluted form.

These affecting images, interspersed throughout the video, sit somewhere between photography and moving image, contrasting with Breton's frenetic and indefinable music, yet somehow expressing the same helpless anger of the lyrics.

The result is an exciting and visually captivating piece of work – the beauty, clarity and preciseness of Niall’s photography highlighted by the deliberate hazy lo-fi vibe of Breton’s live performance.

Niall will be exhibiting the ‘Anger’ installation in London next spring.

Breton’s debut album ‘Other People’s Problems’ will be released in March 2012.

Collaboration With The Lab

Nothing make me happier to be involved with a strong source of creativity like Breton Labs. After seeing them preform last night I am certain they're going to make a massive dent in the music scene. Recently signed to Fat Cat Records and Warp Publishing deal to boot their backing proves the point. This collaboration is getting exciting.

Abe's Penny - The Coming Insurrection

Francesca Gavin and I have collaborated together on an art project for Abe's Penny who have produced postcards from a series of photographs I took in an anarchist commune in Tarnac, France this year. The commune story was written by Huw Nesbitt for Dazed and Confused. We worked 8 hours bailing hay and moving a couple tone of metal before they allowed me to take a few snaps, of a field... Luckily finding a dead fox with a bullet in his mouth made it all worth while.

Abe's Penny is a 4 postcard art project and limited edition subscription that comes out every week (one artist a month, 4 postcards per artist).

The man him self. Once a bricklayer and now a brick painter Frank Laws is a talent among the fine art world. Technical as you can get and a funny feck too boot. His show is going to be epic. His work is stand alone and he is too. A little video here which explains all.

Roller Skates And Ballroom Antics Is On The Cards.

Get yer boot on. Fill yer boots. Roll your roller boots as fast as you can. Another trip to Portland would be nice to re visit the run down Roller Ballroom in the crazy fun fair just out side of town. Two kids as strange as yellow snow were dancing like no one was watching but I was and it made me think...Green light... and go!!!

Say It, I'm Not Angry Anymore - ANGER

I guess it is something which I might have foreseen... Maybe, not really sure as the only thing I can think about happened after I shot this piece last summer. While still going trough the vigorous post production and sound design stages I'm feeling pretty nervous about my first attempt to exhibit a video and sound installation. Ireland seems to be the perfect place as the Photo Ireland Festival is taking off and growing bigger each year. Thanks to Block T Gallery this is all coming together.

Shot the day before I flew to North West America on a separate month long protect, we worked hard for all the shots. Filmed at 2000 fps I wanted to capture the emotion so quick and short while relaying it as a still prolonged moment of this dramatic act. Late Night Reminiscing With The Clan

Thanks to Street Beers, I had a late night education about an old influence. It brought me back to doodling on my copy book at the back of the class being ignored by my teachers. Trying to perfect the iconic symbol that was the Wu logo. I was obsessed, I needed to know everything about them. How many were members, what their names were. Eventually I listened to the 36 chambers so much I could tell you who was rapping just by their voice even if it was a brand new song or interview. They changed hip hop massively back then and now I know even more. Look at this doc. Amazing and very sad too. Loss of life and gaining respect once more.

Duffy And The Neverending Can Of Redstripe

One of my favorite scallies to date is finally going to show the world what he is made of. Like a true exhibitionist, the man in question is not going to cut any corners here. Going all out to entertain us and bedazzle our very eyes with the skill and craftsmanship he manages to keep pretty cool about while the rest of the world rants and raves.

With a steady hand and drunken quotes to beat the band Duffy is going to be big time, some might say he is big time but regardless, he is a true artist. He Knows exactly what he wants and sticks to his guns making it work, I know he is already there.

Look at his work, buy it, cherish it and don't loose it. Fuck knows how much it will be worth after it sells out!

Get down to Redchurch Street and shout from the top of you lungs! "I'm here to see your wears, I have cash too!!!" You might be shocked at what he decides to show you...
